    SPECIALITY INTERESTS

     STONE DISEASE

I have a special interest in this aspect of Urology. I have developed a comprehensive Stone service at Ashford. A Consultant led dedicated stone clinic, full compliment of modern endoscopes and the ancillary equipment along with the supporting staff ensure a robust infrastructure.  Percutaneous renal surgery for stones and other upper tract diseases has been developed locally since 1996, thanks to the generosity of a local charity – they helped us to purchase the nephroscope. I have also established the fibre-optic ureteroscopy and Laser lithotripsy for upper tract calculi.

     Endo-urology

My interest in stone disease has led to the development of other Endourological procedures. I have pioneered the Metallic Ureteric stent – Memokath 051. I have published extensively and have performed live stent insertions at many International meetings. I have published 2 original articles on this subject in International journals.

    UROLOGICAL ONCOLOGY

I have established hematuria clinic in Ashford Hospital. This entails a ‘one stop shop’ service including ultrasound and flexible cystoscopy within 3 hours.

Radical Prostatectomy has become an standard treatment for localised prostate cancer.  I have established  this service at Ashford. The results have been audited at regular intervals and match international standards.I have established guidelines to general practitioners to enable them to refer appropriate cases.

I published a paper on cytoreductive surgery for disseminated germ cell tumours of the testis when I was a Senior Registrar.

     ANDROLOGY

I am interested in Impotence and Infertility. A dedicated clinic has been established at Ashford Hospital since January 1995 for such patients. Patients are assessed using a standard proforma and are offered the appropriate treatment. Scrotal explorations for treatment of infertility is undertaken in the new day case unit.

     FEMALE INCONTINENCE

With the purchase of a modern Urodynamic machine, a comprehensive service to evaluate these patients is available at Ashford. Patients are offered a wide choice of treatment. This service is well supported by a dedicated physiotherapist.

     BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA

My interest in this common urological condition has led to the development of shared care protocol for the management at community and hospital level. Our department has published its original work on intra-prostatic metallic stents.

    RENAL CANCER

I have performed a large number of radical nephrectomies including

vena caval exploration for renal cell carcinoma.
